Winners and Losers of the 2025 British Grand Prix

The 2025 British Grand Prix lived up to its heights with an exciting afternoon for the viewers. The rain-hit Silverstone track was drying up when the race was about to start. This is why Russell, Leclerc, and Hadjar went into the pits to put on slick tires. It would’ve been a great strategy; however, the virtual and full safety car was a dampener to their progress.

After being overtaken by Piastri before the first round of pit stops, Verstappen was looking to finish 3rd or 2nd at best. However, the most decisive part of the grand prix occurred when Piastri slowed down as the safety car came in and wreaked havoc. Max didn’t crash into him, but lost tire temperature, which made him spin and drop down the order. Piastri was handed a 10-second penalty for his erratic driving, which ultimately handed Lando Norris the victory. This marks a momentous moment for the Englishman on his home soil. Let’s look into the winners and losers of the 2025 British Grand Prix.

Winners of the 2025 British Grand Prix

1.    Lando Norris

The British Grand Prix was a wet and wild Grand Prix, which was ultimately dictated by a 10-second penalty for Piastri. Even Norris said it wasn’t his best win, but who cares about it? Championships are not won by dominating all weekends, so this is a great win for his world championship hopes.

2.    Nico Hulkenberg

After 15 seasons in F1, the Hulk finally secured a podium to end an unwanted record. It wasn’t just a simple podium, but a great drive from P19 to P3. This is a good feeling for every F1 fan who has been following the sport for a long time. To top it off, the 15 points will help Sauber in the Constructors Championship.

3.    Pierre Gasly

Pierre Gasly once again drags the Alpine to a respectable 6th place in the British GP. The French driver, like the other drivers in the winner’s section, didn’t get it the easy way. He had to fight the likes of Hamilton and Verstappen to get a place in the points.

4.    Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton’s 12-race podium streak in the Silverstone GP came to an end. This may be disappointing, but it was one of the great weekends for the Brit in a Ferrari. He was not happy to finish behind the Sauber, but it was a great week for the 7-time World Champion.

Losers of the 2025 British Grand Prix

1.    Oscar Piastri

Oscar Piastri was commanding the race after taking the lead from Verstappen. However, a rare error in Lap 22 where he braked hard behind the safety car ultimately lost him the win. The sudden stop was enough for Verstappen to fly past him. This inevitably led him to get a 10-second penalty, which cost him the win in the race.

2.    Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen pulled out an impressive lap in the British GP qualifying. He was asked a question post-qualifying, whether he could keep the McLarens at bay, and he said that it would be hard. However, his spin when he lost tire temperature after Piastri brake tested him, ultimately cost him a podium in the race.

3.    George Russell

Mercedes and George Russell will want to forget the 2025 British GP. Russell was hindered by an ambitious strategy that didn’t pay dividends and which ruined his race. As I spoke about in my 2025 British GP Preview, Russell has been unlucky in his home race and this was the case once again.

4.    Charles Leclerc

The British GP weekend has been one of the worst performances in the season for Leclerc. After being outqualified by his teammate, Leclerc took the same gamble as Russell, and it didn’t pay off. This strategy completely destroyed his race, and hence he finished 14th in the race.

5.    Rookies

It was a race to forget for the rookies. Apart from Oliver Bearman, who finished 11th, every other rookie couldn’t get to the end of the race. The treacherous track conditions and changing weather meant that they couldn’t handle the unexpected.
