Oscar Piastri Grabs Surprise Pole in 2025 Dutch GP Qualifying

Oscar Piastri claimed an emphatic pole in the 2025 Dutch GP Qualifying by just 12 milliseconds. The Aussie was struggling throughout the practice sessions to get a competitive lap time on track. Lando Norris was quicker throughout the weekend after topping all three sessions and looked like the driver destined to be on pole. However, Piastri kept his cards in his bag and bagged an impressive pole for tomorrow’s race.

Piastri leads the championship by 9 points, and the winner of tomorrow’s race will have a huge advantage going into the other rounds. The McLarens were the fastest car by a country mile, and there was little to nothing to write about the other cars. Let’s delve into the review to know more.

Lance Stroll into the wall in Q1 of the 2025 Dutch GP Qualifying

Lance Stroll once again went into the barriers this weekend during his first flying lap. This was his second major incident this weekend after a heavy crash in practice. However, he was able to get the car running, but couldn’t get out to take part in qualifying. The car was damaged beyond repair, so it could not get out again to be part of the 2025 Dutch GP Qualifying.

The session saw a double elimination of both the Haas cars. Bearman, who is a master in qualifying, couldn’t deliver in the session. Hulkenberg was another driver alongside Colapinto, who is a mainstay in the Q1 elimination fray this season. They continued their hot streak of eliminations in the first part of qualifying in Zandvoort.

Antonelli knocked out again in Q2

Kimi Antonelli crashed out of another Q2 session by a few tenths. The rookie who impressed at the start of the year is struggling to show his early-season form. Yuki Tsunoda was another driver from the big three teams who couldn’t get out of the session. However, this was a decent session for the Japanese driver by his standards in the Red Bull. He will start in 12th for the race tomorrow.

Gabriel Bortoleto was quite frustrated as he was knocked out of the session. However, the team will be happy with the result. He will share the 7th row of the grid with Gasly, who continues to outdrive the Alpine. The last spot in the session went to Alex Albon, who struggled to get his tires in the right window to put a competitive lap.

Piastri on Pole for the Dutch GP

Oscar Piastri claimed his 5th pole in the 2025 F1 season and first after the Spanish GP. Piastri, who wasn’t looking that happy throughout the weekend, finally came to life in the final two sessions. He will start on pole and will be sharing the front row with his teammate. With the past Dutch GPs won by drivers starting on pole, it’ll be difficult for Norris, unless McLaren pulls something similar to the 2025 Hungarian GP.

The home hero Max Verstappen will start in 3rd and was the best of the rest behind the McLarens. The surprise of the session was Isaac Hadjar qualifying in 4th ahead of the other major players. George Russell in the Mercedes will start in 5th and will hope to get a good getaway from the start.

The Ferraris looked quite miserable throughout the weekend, but seemed to pull things back as the sessions panned out. Leclerc will start in 6th, followed by Hamilton in 7th tomorrow. The top 10 was completed by Lawson, Sainz, and Alonso.
