2025 Miami GP: Winners and Losers

Oscar Piastri claimed victory in an incident-filled Miami GP. The Australian strengthened his lead in the World Championship after clinching his fourth victory of the season. The McLarens’ true pace came through in the 2025 Miami GP as their drivers finished 1st and 2nd in the race.

While Max Verstappen initially led the race, he had a battle with Norris, which forced the Briton wide and dropped him down the order. Oscar Piastri overtook Antonelli and eventually took the race lead from Verstappen. Equally, Norris steamrolled up the grid and overtook 3-4 cars to get himself up to second place.

The first 20 laps of the 2025 Miami GP were the best of the 2025 F1 season. There were some great nail-biting overtakes and exceptional racing that made it the best of the season so far. Let’s dive into the winners and losers of the 2025 Miami GP.

Winners of the 2025 Miami GP

1.    Oscar Piastri

Oscar Piastri claimed his 3rd straight victory and 4th of the season. The Aussie was unlucky not to get the sprint victory, but he ensured that he’d get the race victory. He was not as aggressive as in the Saudi Arabia GP, but was very clinical. The championship leader showed his teammate how you need to race Verstappen for the lead without crashing. After the pass on the reigning champion, it was clean sailing for Oscar in the Miami Grand Prix.

2.    George Russell

George Russell took things into his luck into his own hands and went on to finish on the final step of the podium. After starting on the hard instead of the medium tires, the Brit ensured that his pit window was when the VSC came out. This helped him in a difficult weekend where Kimi Antonelli was the better driver in the team. To top it all off, he avoided a 5-second penalty for overspeeding under VSC conditions.

3.    Williams

Williams had a great weekend in Miami after a great points haul. Alex Albon finished in 5th place, and Carlos Sainz finished in 9th place. This is the best display the team has had in the race for years. To top it off, one of their cars managed to defeat both Ferraris based on pure race pace.

Losers of the 2025 Miami GP

1.    Lando Norris

Another weekend and another mention of Lando Norris in the losers section. After a lucky sprint win in Miami, it looked like he finally got on top of the car in Miami qualifying. Starting the race in P2, he tried pressuring Verstappen into an error but ended up going off the track. This is a typical mistake we’ve been seeing in the driver since last year. He managed to salvage the race but still lost out on points to Oscar Piastri in the championship.

2.    Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen had another dramatic race, and there will be many questions on his robust defense. After crowding Norris at the start of the race, he lost out to Piastri and later to Norris. These were losing battles, but he was overtaken by Russell, which was no fault of his own. The concerning part was that even after holding the McLarens for so long, he finished half a minute behind them.

3.    Ferrari

Ferrari had a disastrous weekend in the 2025 Miami GP, may it be in terms of strategy or race pace. Both drivers were quite frustrated during the weekend as they couldn’t do anything to go faster. However, the weekend will be remembered for Hamilton firing a one-liner when he was denied a swap with his teammate. He was initially allowed to overtake but later told to reserve it. This summed up the weekend for the Ferrari team.
