Luck Favors Lando Norris in Miami GP Sprint

Lando Norris claimed a dramatic victory in the Miami GP sprint race. Oscar Piastri looked destined to win the sprint after overtaking Kimi Antonelli at the start. The rain-hit sprint took a turn when the track was ready to move out to slicks, and everyone started to pit.

Lando Norris had to stay out as he would lose time if McLaren double-stacked their cars for the pit stop. And this was when luck favored the Briton as Fernando Alonso crashed his car into the wall, and the race had to slow down, which allowed him to take the lead. Lewis Hamilton’s excellent run of results in the sprint continued as he finished 3rd in the race. A well-timed pit stop by the team allowed the 7-time champion to climb the ranks. Let’s look into the key points of the Miami GP sprint.

Unlucky Kimi Antonelli in the Miami GP Sprint

Kimi Antonelli became the youngest pole sitter in the Miami GP sprint qualifying. However, the young rookie didn’t get off to the best start and lost places at the start of the race.  After a bad getaway at the start and going off the track, he ended up 4th, losing 3 spots.

The next major mishap that happened to the young Italian was during his pit stop. The Mercedes driver was coming into the pits to go onto dry-weather tires. However, Max Verstappen had an unsafe release from his pit box and collided with the rookie. This meant that Kimi couldn’t pit and had to rejoin the track with the same tires. He then came into the pit on the next lap and lost several places.

A Sprint Full of Crashes

The Miami GP sprint saw a few crashes, which made the event interesting for the viewers but a headache for the mechanics. Even before the sprint began, Charles Leclerc crashed out and couldn’t start the sprint and went on another rant about himself.

After changing to slicks, crashes were expected, and this is what happened. Carlos Sainz started the chaos as he hit the barriers and had a puncture. He limped the car to the pits, spreading debris around the track. After a few laps, Liam Lawson hit the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso and spun him into the wall. This led to the sprint ending behind the safety car.
