George Russell claimed an emphatic pole position in the 2025 Singapore GP Qualifying ahead of Verstappen and the McLarens. This marks his 2nd pole position this season after the Canadian GP. The Mercedes looked quite quick under the lights in the Marina Bay Street Circuit and looks like a strong force for the race win tomorrow. The Mercedes has nothing to lose in the Drivers Championship, but has a good opportunity to finish 2nd ahead of the Ferraris in the Constructors Championship.
The fight for the Drivers’ Championship starts from 2nd as Verstappen will hope to get a good result and put the pressure on Piastri, who starts behind him. Lando Norris, who is the closest driver to the Australian, will start in the 3rd row and will be disappointed in how things have gone so far this weekend. Let’s look into how the 2025 Singapore GP Qualifying played out.
Stroll Out in Q1 as Gasly suffers a Hydraulic failure
Lance Stroll once again is out in the first part of qualifying in the 2025 F1 season. The Canadian driver has been knocked out for the 5th time in Q1 in his past 6 visits. Now the question on everybody’s mind will be how many chances he will get in the Aston Martin.

Pierre Gasly was unfortunate, as he experienced a major hydraulic failure. This prevented him from completing a lap at the end of the session. The French driver, who has been getting the best out of the car this year, couldn’t quite get the same service from the car. He was also accompanied by his teammate, who couldn’t get out of the session. After replacing Jack Doohan in the Emilia Romagna GP, he hasn’t done much to prove his worth.
Gabriel Bortoleto was a surprise elimination in the session after outqualifying his teammate in the past 7 races. This is just a minor setback, and you’d expect him to be back in the fight in the remaining races. Esteban Ocon was also eliminated and comprehensively outqualified by his teammate again.
Tsunoda out in Q2 under the lights in Singapore
Yuki Tsunoda qualified last in Q2 after narrowly getting out of Q1. The Japanese driver had a good race last time in the Azerbaijan GP, but couldn’t get another good session under his belt in the 2025 Singapore GP Qualifying. To add to his misery, he is under investigation for not slowing down under yellow flags.
The session was disappointing for the Williams as neither car could get out of the session. Carlos Sainz will be very disappointed as he couldn’t back up his impressive podium from Baku. Liam Lawson will be another driver who had a great race in Baku but has had a horrible weekend so far. Nico Hulkenberg will be the happiest among the drivers eliminated in Q2. The veteran driver has been outqualified by his rookie teammate for the past 7 races, so this is a good comeback for Hulk.
George Russell on Pole in the 2025 Singapore GP Qualifying
Russell claimed his 7th career pole and 2nd of this year in the 2025 Singapore GP Qualifying. The British driver looked rampant throughout the qualifying session and backed it up with 2 impressive laps in Q3. He was nearly 2 tenths faster than his arch nemesis, Max Verstappen. However, the reigning champion may argue that he was impeded in his final run, which could potentially reduce the gap. Verstappen was followed by the Championship leader Piastri. He will like to get his bearings together after a horror show on the streets of Baku.

Kimi Antonelli will start in 4th after putting out an impressive lap in the session. The Italian driver hasn’t had the best of times after the summer break and will hope to get a good result tomorrow. Lando Norris will be very disappointed with the qualifying session as he couldn’t get the best out of the car. After failing to capitalise on Piastri crashing out in the last race, this is another major setback in his title fight. The other two who will be disappointed with this session will be the two Ferraris. They have had another below-par qualifying session after the summer break. The final three spots in the top 10 are occupied by the outliers of Q3- Hadjar, Bearman and Alonso.
