Oscar Piastri will lead the pack in the Chinese Grand Prix after a stunning qualifying session. The Aussie put on two subline laps in the final part of qualifying to edge out pole from Mercedes George Russell. After a disappointing race in Australia last weekend, Piastri has a clear road ahead for redemption as he chases his first win this season.
Earlier in the day, Lewis Hamilton won in the sprint race, and Oscar Piastri finished 2nd. However, the Brit in the Ferrari struggled in qualifying and will start lower down the field than what fans expected. Let’s head into the review and find out more.
Lawson Flop Show Continues in Chinese Qualification 1
Liam Lawson once again finished last in the first part of qualifying. This will put the Kiwi under massive pressure, who doesn’t even have a full season under his belt in F1. He was eliminated alongside 3 other rookies: Gabriel Bortoleto, Jack Doohan, and Oliver Bearman. Pierre Gasly also missed out going into Q2 by a few milliseconds.

Carlos Sainz is Out in Q2
Carlos Sainz had a poor Q2 session and will start in 15th position for the race tomorrow. This is the second time he has been out-qualified by his teammate this season. The other drivers who were eliminated, include, both the Aston Martin cars of Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso. Nico Hulkenberg qualified a respectable 12th for Kick Sauber, just behind Esteban Ocon, who replaced him at Haas.

Oscar Piastri Takes Pole Position for Chinese Grand Prix
McLaren is back in front, but this time with Oscar Piastri in a competitive qualifying session. Piastri edged out George Russell by less than a tenth of a second and claimed his first pole. George steamrolled his car to the front row after posting an impressive final lap in the Shanghai International Circuit.

On the second row of the grid, we will have last year’s title contenders, Lando Norris in 3rd and Max Verstappen in 4th. The third row is occupied by the Ferrari drivers. Lewis Hamilton, who won the sprint shootout earlier, will start in 5th, while Leclerc will start in 6th.
Isaac Hadjar again takes the bragging rights in qualifying amongst the rookies and will start in 7th. He will be accompanied by Kimi Antonelli in the Mercedes, who will start in 8th on the grid. The last two drivers in the top 10 were Yuki Tsunoda and Alex Albon, who will start 9th and 10th, respectively, for tomorrow’s race.
